Backyard Pears

Edmonton Pears

In late September I did a small heroic act in my own backyard…I picked pears from my tree. ’What’s so special about that?’ I hear you ask! Well this year I didn’t throw them out. Nope. After 7 years in our house I actually picked and donated them to Fruits of Sherbrooke.

Collected Pears

Wow, that was a wonderful feeling, so much better than the usual guilt I would experience after throwing them into the garbage. Trust me, I have tried to peel and slice my pears in years past but to no avail. The time and effort was not worth the quantity it yeilded.

However those amazing ladies at Fruits of Sherbrooke turned my little pears into delicious jams and jellies in a jiffy! Using her creative preserving genius Carol and her volunteers cut, chopped, cooked and combined my pears to make the most delicious preserves my garden has churned out.

Vanilla Spice Pear Jam

When I brought home my jar of vanilla spice jam I felt so proud and my family was impressed too. All I needed was a little cape to complete my super mum look!!
