Just a short brag!! Fruits of Sherbrooke was nominated for and won the Good Neighbours award in the new "community" category tonight.
Our goal is to prevent good food from going to waste by rescuing excess or forgotten urban fruit. Over our one year of work the program has grown to also encompass community in a number of ways - the relationships with those who share their excess fruit, those who come out to volunteer and learn skills and those who have encouraged our growth in a myriad of ways. In turn we hope to teach preserving, respect for the bounty of food offered right here in Edmonton, work experience opportunities, and friendships. It was a wonderful celebration as we were joined with a crew from Winnifred Stewart Association, who are our partners in picking and preparing the fruit.
Thank you to all the people who have supported us in this endeavour of fruit rescue - our community (and others) for their generous gifts of their excess fruit, our community league for use of their kitchen facilities and shelter as this enterprise takes root, and our growing cadre of loyal customers who appreciate the quality of the product.
