The Poetry of Jam

I think we make really good jam and sometimes see it in terms of a symphony - with a number of different notes working together to dance in your mouth.   It is the artistry of combining "rescued" fruit (which others have either forgotten or dismissed) with other fruits and flavours to make a finished product with layers of flavour.  Crystal Marshall is one of our workers in the kitchen and she has taken the task of keeping us organized and clean.  She is a phenomenal dish washer and gets jars sterilized and ready to be filled, cleans pots as they are emptied and organizes the store room and supplies.  In addition she helps when and where needed and has been a steady support in keeping the processes moving along.  I think we are a pretty good team with each person bringing their talents and skills as well as good humour and a willingness to share and learn. Although  some of us feel we are artists when it comes to jam, Crystal has been observing with all her senses and just this week shared a poem she created for Fruits of Sherbrooke.  I am quite blown away to see how she has captured what we do, in a totally different dimension. With her permission I share Crystal's poem.  If you copy or use it, please credit Crystal Marshall as the author and send us a note telling us where it has been used.

Jars of the heart

A prism to the beauty and riches

Of sweet nectar, and plum dew kisses

The effervescent wisps of steam

Convey all colours; a rainbow dream

For our hands and strength do toil

Unearthed treasures unfold their coil

For all creations to which inspire

To raise all pleasures, and taste desires

For all the jars we raise the bar

We share a love from jar to jar

Jars of sweet

Jars of tart

Jars of love

From jars of the heart

A Good Teacher Deserves an Apple, a Great Teacher Deserves Apple Jam

It's that time of year again.  School is coming to a close as are extra curricular activities.  All those teachers, coaches, instructors and mentors are gone for the summer and what to get them to show our appreciation? There are many popular items but really, do things like gift cards and apple frames stand out and leave an impression?  We at Fruits of Sherbrooke like to think that our preserves are the perfect gift!  Appealing to any gender, age and genre - in fact appealing to those who like food. Well, that leaves the gift receiver option way open.  Jam is something that most people possess but perhaps don't go out of their way to treat themselves to.  Our jams, made with rescued fruit, offer a double appeal; local and delicious  Fruits of Sherbrooke provides something a little different that doesn't break the bank. It gives a little gift that bundles the thought of thank you and good bye together.  Naturally we have a number of apple products including ginger apple jam, maple apple jam and lemon apple jam. We'd like you to consider thinking outside that bread box and get adventurous with something like rosemary rhubarb jelly; very tasty added to roasted potatos, chicken or fish.
